Tips on Effective Correspondence
All officials are extremely busy and receive large volumes of correspondence. In order to improve the chances of having your letter read and given credence, follow these simple tips. Try to keep your correspondence brief and concise, one to three paragraphs in length, stating your views logically and with civility. It is recommended to focus on one issue per letter. If your concerns cover more than one issue, send additional correspondence for each one. Copy all public officials who share decision-making responsibilities on the issue.
